about

We were hoping to make folk songs with a ghostly theme a regular feature of the What Are You Afraid Of? podcast. It turned out to be a niche genre. I came across quite a few that were, quite frankly, rubbish. They are not included in the podcast or this album.

So, this is a compilation of the best we could find and includes one song in which the lyrics were written by T. Fox Dunham (The Yule Cat of Iceland) and another song isn't really about ghosts at all, but is of personal interest to me (Poverty Knock). However, all of them have appeared in episodes of What Are You Afraid Of? podcast.

The Yule Cat of Iceland - lyrics by T. Fox Dunham. Otherwise, the lyrics were drawn from various historical, traditional and anonymous sources.
Melodies were likewise drawn from ancient sources where available. Otherwise I devised my own melody - particularly on Grim King of the Ghosts.

All performances are by me and for better or worse all the editing and engineering is also by me.

I hope you enjoy. ... more
