about

This was inspired by Joan Baez. I wanted to write a protest song, but it seems that this is as close as I get - for the moment.

lyrics

Freedom Is Inside My Head

I’m trying to get used to the life I’ve been given,
I’m trying to get used to you all
and I have to accept that life’s not always fair;
I don’t always get what I want.

You tell me to march for freedom,
When I don’t really know what you mean.
You tell me to fight for freedom;
how much freedom do I get with each death?

I’m proud of my freedom from sordid possessions
that tie me down to this planet
and I’m able to break with the chains of my fear.
Am I moving towards your intention?

You tell me to march for freedom,
When I don’t really know what you mean.
You tell me to fight for freedom;
how much freedom do I get with each death?

Any freedom I’ve felt is the gift of my God,
well beyond the power of people
to bestow or withhold or to try to deny me;
freedom is inside my head.

You tell me to march for freedom,
When I don’t really know what you mean.
You tell me to fight for freedom;
how much freedom do I get with each death?

about

Brendan Shoreland Plymouth, UK

Creativity arises at the confluence of experience and personality. I have always hoped that my songs can help people who are stuck ... like I was. People who are lost ... like I was. I understand music to be something that gets beneath the surface and speaks of clarity and authenticity. With the lyrics, I look for metaphors and parables that chime and occasionally gently nudge. I hope you enjoy. ... more
