Take Away The Concrete (Onbeat Mix)

about

I quite like where I live, but I sometimes yearn for a simplicity that goes beyond geographical location and practical possibility.

I recently realised that those amber (sodium) lights have now been replaced by white LED’s. The song is therefore now a historical record.

lyrics

Take away the concrete. Take away the city streets.
Take away those amber lights, staring down at me.
Take away the houses. Take away my CV.
Take away the factories; let my feet walk free.

Take away the bridges. Take away all boats and plane.
Take away my soft warm bed; let me feel the rain.
Take away the ravaged trees. Take away all government.
Take away mass communication; let my neighbour know me.

Let me walk into the sky, never let me wonder why.
Let me see distant horizons, everywhere I look.
Let me feel the thrill of the kill. Let me make love underneath the sky.
Let me smell clean air and swim in a vibrant, living sea.

I know that all I want is wishful thinking;
so I cherish the reality of freedom deep inside.
The material world doesn’t touch my soul.
My dreams will sustain me.

I understand music to be something that gets beneath the surface and speaks of clarity and authenticity. With the lyrics, I look for metaphors and parables that chime and occasionally gently nudge. I hope you enjoy. ... more
