lyrics

The Mayflower (Ship Made of Wood)

The Pilgrims wanted to escape religious intolerance, violence and hatred.
They chartered the Mayflower, settled their affairs; gave up their jobs and sold off all their wares.

Plymouth was the prelude to the USA; the Pilgrims couldn’t wait to get away.
The people of Plymouth helped as much as they could, as the Pilgrims sailed away in their ship, made of wood.

Three thousand miles of cold winter storms, rotten food, sickness and a perilous fate.
Mayflower fought the swell for sixty two days, ‘til at last they saw New England through the rain and the haze.

Plymouth was the prelude to the USA; the Pilgrims couldn’t wait to get away.
The people of Plymouth helped as much as they could, as the Pilgrims sailed away in their ship, made of wood.

Disease and frozen ground made their work hard to bear as the Pilgrims started building in December 1620.
John Carver welcomed Squanto as their first native friend, who helped them to find food and on whom they could depend.

Plymouth was the prelude to the USA; the Pilgrims finally had found their way.
Plymouth old and new have both played their part, with help and encouragement, right from the start.

Plymouth in New England began to grow and prosper, settlements unfolded in the Massachusetts soil.
The efforts of the Pilgrims provided the foundation for the rise of a mighty and powerful nation.

Plymouth was the prelude to the USA; the Pilgrims finally had found their way.
Plymouth old and new have both played their part, with help and encouragement, right from the start.
