I Told You That I Love You

about

A song of unrequited love. This was my one and only attempt to persuade her. Gosh, it hurt at the time, but I respected her decision and moved on.

The image might need an explanation. There is a railway bridge with a footpath crossing the River Rhine in Cologne. To declare their love, locals attach a padlock to the mesh separating footpath from railway. It's hard to estimate the number of padlocks on that bridge, but it must be around 100,000.

lyrics

Did I say too much? Did I tell you too soon?
Will I see you again?
I want you next to me when I gaze at the Moon.
Will I see you and when?

Chorus
I told you that I love you.
Told you that I care.
Told you what was in my heart.

I know that we’re both helpless; both torn apart.
Will I see you again?
I want you to be happy, maybe make a new start.
Will I see you and when?

Chorus

You said you had to think, then you hugged me and went.
Will I see you again?
I have to let you go, perhaps it’s not meant.
Will I see you and when?

Chorus

I have to chase my future, I owe myself that.
Will I see you again?
My dreams would be much richer with you, son and cat.
Will I see you and when?

Brendan Shoreland Plymouth, UK

Creativity arises at the confluence of experience and personality. I have always hoped that my songs can help people who are stuck ... like I was. People who are lost ... like I was. I understand music to be something that gets beneath the surface and speaks of clarity and authenticity. With the lyrics, I look for metaphors and parables that chime and occasionally gently nudge. I hope you enjoy. ... more
